For all things handmade, ArtFire is one handmade marketplace sure to prove an untapped source for unique, handcrafted gifts. ArtFire not only provides a venue for artists to market their wares and consumers to buy handmade goods, it is a community where creative minds can gather to discuss latest trends, techniques and upcoming events. Because of their integration of consumerism and creative collaboration, ArtFire has received our TopTenREVIEWS Silver Award.
Probably the best part about purchasing handmade items on ArtFire is that you don’t have to create an account. The buying process is set up in such a way that all you have to do is select items, enter in your credit card and shipping information, and you’re good to go. Competing handmade marketplaces make having an account mandatory, which bogs down your initial purchase experience. With ArtFire, you’re in and out with a fantastic handmade gift digitally in hand in no time.
Another awesome feature is the “Make an Offer” option. Sellers who are open to receiving offers will embed a “Make an Offer” field on the right hand side of a product listing. Simply enter in your bid and send your offer. The seller will then choose to accept or deny your offer and you’ll receive an email either way. Not all sellers use this feature, so keep your eyes open for those who do.
To help you find specific items, ArtFire’s search function lets you initially narrow down the items by categories like handmade, design, supplies, vintage, media, fine art or by seller. Along the left side of the page, they also have links to specific pages like curated collections, unique gifts, shops with sales and a page to search by color. The color themed search is really awesome. You select a color, choose a category to search and ArtFire will populate pages of items with that color.
When browsing through the immense selection, you can add favorite items to your “Hotlist” by clicking on the heart icon on the left hand side of the page. To make a Hotlist, you will need to create an account. A Hotlist is a great way to organize items you would like to purchase in the future. Items from your Hotlist can then be added to a themed collection if you so choose. Collections are featured on ArtFire’s homepage.
ArtFire has a fantastic platform for sellers. To begin, you can set up a basic account for free and begin listing items. There are no listing fees or commission on sales, either. Once your account is set up, you’ll be directed to your shop’s dashboard, which is complete with a user-friendly interface and promotional tools. From here you can list items, check sales and create shipping profiles. You can also curate collections of your items into themes. These collections can then be shared and analytics can be tracked. From the dashboard you can also respond to customers' questions and requests.
However, if you want to get the most out of your ArtFire account, we'd suggest upgrading to a Pro account For a monthly fee, you receive more flexibility in customizing your studio, unlimited listings and more site analytic tools, as well as the chance to be a Featured Artisan, be part of an ArtFire guild and more.
In your dashboard, you can see the different tools available with a Pro account. In our opinion, the seller tools integrated into a Pro ArtFire account is worth the monthly fee, hands down. Over 40 tools are at your disposal to track, share and promote your heart out. Some of our favorite tools include custom coupon codes, Twitter updates in the click of a button and the Facebook kiosk. Other Pro tools include promo labels, an Etsy importer, the ability to have an artisan blog in your studio and more. Once you post a listing, it will show up in your Artisan studio. With a Pro membership you can feature items and change the order in which your items are listed. Additionally, when any of your items are put onto a buyer's Hotlist, you will be notified.
An ArtFire guild is a collection of artists and sellers with common interests. Guilds serve as a place to discuss field-specific topics and a forum for posting upcoming events and the latest news. If you would like to be part of a guild or become a guild master, you’ll need to have a Pro account. A guild is also a great way to meet with bead, paint or other art suppliers. There is also a Forge button on the top of each page that links to a forum of supply requests and suppliers.
The major difference between ArtFire and other online handmade marketplaces is its attention to detail in regards to search engine optimization (SEO).
